Ezra 2:62
These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

People, People, read the verse.. It says you must have the genealogy not just say you are of the linage... Who today has the genealogy? I want to know to see if Israel even need to rebuild the Temple. Without priests what is the point?

You guys pick the best answer. I have asked if anyone had the genelology to show they have the right to the pristhood and all I got for asking (and I used scriptural authority is the asking) was told off. Normally a Levite would have easilly been the best answer for this question but all he would tell me is "Because we know:" this is not good enough to meet their biblical mandate.. If they can't produce genealogy then they have no right to the Priesthood. You may as well say that John the Baptist came to you out of heaven and ordained you... ONLY son of Aaron can hold this priesthood. No other Tribe not even other Levities JUST THE SONS OF AARON!!...Jim

You mean the Levitical Priesthood? That is the Priesthood for Israel. Their High Priest would make the Lamb sacrifice for the people Israel, for their sins.
I believe Israel plan to start Lamb sacrifices again after the temple gets built.
But this is a blindness over them, because Jesus came and was the Lamb of God, so the whole world could believe in Him & have His shed blood wash away their sins.
Jesus gave Himself, a sacrifice for our sins, once & for all. He is our High Priest (after order of Melchezedic, King & Priest) forever to make intercession for us. So also, since Jesus is alive & well at the right hand of God; and His Spirit is near every one of us, no matter where we are, we can call out to Him. Jesus is our High Priest.

The Jews are the chosen people, no claim or proof that will satisfy YOU is needed. Your question is being asked from outside the cultural community, so you get that kind of answer -- kind of a rude answer, isn't it. So let's delve into the 'inside' of the culture and see if we can enlighten the answer a bit..
Get clear on the idea of a living tradition, an unbroken chain from the time of the Bible until now. Let that idea sink in . . . there is nothing more powerful than the power of living history.
So, the Levi'im of today ARE the Levite tribe. The Cohanim ARE the descendants of the ancient Cohanim. We know because we KNOW who we are. Get it? There are no false claims because there just aren't.
You don't claim to be the Queen of England, ever, because
1. you couldn't pull it off
2. everyone else around you already knows you're not
3. it would be immoral to do so.
4. the only purpose would be to agrandize your ego, and that is transparent.
Hope this helps you see things from the INSIDE of the culture instead of from the outside of the culture.
Write if you have more questions.

The Sanhedrin has reformed and exists. There will be a rebuilding of a third temple its prophesied in Daniel and Revelation. The priests are in training. Theres a guy in Montana i think thats being taught by a rabbi how to breed and raise the red heifers for the sacrifices. I have links email me if you want them.
I decided to add to my answer.
The population counter is over 6.5 billion. We can reason that at least one if not more can claim / show both the genealogy / lineage.
None of us here seem to have this information.
The Sanhedrin im sure is working to find such person/s.
A completed temple might not be needed but there has to at least be the sanctuary part for the sacrifices to take place.
Scripture shows this in Daniel.
Since when did something in the bible or any law prevent someone from going against it. Most of the world is under the spirit of error. Jesus was the sacrifice there should be no need for animal sacrifices to begin again in the first place.
I realize you might not be Messianic so you might be asking from a diffrent perspective but i've answered from mine.
That Jesus was the Messiah.
1 John 4:5-7 (King James Version)
5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
Those not written in the Lambs Book of Life are coming under a strong delusion are being deceived.
Thessalonians 2:10-12
10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Revelation 13 (King James Version)
7And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world
14And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
Those that dont have the Holy Spirit are being lead in error and will be deceived.
End of line...

I doubt it, seriously. I don't think they even know who is descended from what ancient tribe any more.
That wouldn't stop them from CLAIMING the genealogy, though. Peope make such claims all the time. My grandfather, for instance, insisted till the day he died that we are descended from King Arthur.
Hey, maybe I am the rightful Queen of England, who knows?

Of course there is, are you kidding?
The Tribe of levite was the Priest line, and remains the priest-line today. Just as Judah was and is the King line of today.

Claiming has nothing to do with it. They are called and chosen from above.
The temple is the body of Christ.
