i tried as follows:pressed R to repair, then it started to repair, then i selected c:windows
then something like "c:windows:> " came. i dont know to proceed further. can anyone help??

Depends on what you are trying to repair. Missing CAB files? Use the command "/? extract", without quotes.

yes, its possible to repair windows xp service pack 2 by windows xp service pack 3 cd

Or, if you want to do a proper repair, type exit on there and it'll restart, get into the windows setup screen and press enter and see whether or not it has an 'R' option. If it doesn't you cannot second-repair Windows.

You need to bypass that first screen, just choose install Windows, then then next page will show you your current XP listed, and give you option to repair that instead.
