"The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong" -- but that's still the way to bet.

Your question underlines the advantage to using many translations.
Jesus was pointing out that those who seem to be so righteous and just, therefore most likely to be first in God's favor, would be, to everyone's surprise, not just at the end of the line, but not even in the line.
Why?
Because they are hypocrites. They only make a showy display of righteousness.
However, there are those who quietly go about their way, genuinely striving hard to be just and righteous. They don't get the limelight. They are considered 'last'.
BUT, in God's eyes ....they are first.
The whole thing is a call to genuine humility.

Nothing like taking a Bible verse out of context and using it for your own pleasure. What that verse means is at the Throne of Jesus for judgment, the judgment will be for those who last came to heaven and the first who came will be last. it has nothing to do with racing or where you finish. I'll be praying that you are under conviction to accept Jesus as your Savior. Then you will begin to understand that which you currently mock.

When the "new system starts" and the resurrections begin, the ones that died just before the end of the system will be resurrected first and the ones that died long ago will then be brought to life.

Jesus was first - The Son of Man will be last.
The man was made first - the woman was made last, on the evening of the sixth day. The woman was raised last.
