What are some arguments that might help them change their minds? My dad listens to the Beatles, maybe arguments about them will work?

OK, first of all, I'm a girl, and I just want to mention that my dad watched all of the music videos except I Don't Love because it wasn't out yet when they banned me. My dad hates the fact that they sing about drugs, death, and sex. And I was like, they don't really talk about sex, and not so much about drugs. That didn't really help. Plus, it's their fault I like dark stuff, because usually you are what your name is, and mine means "Dark."

okay it may be because they just looked at the image of mcr and yeah thats a big turn off for parents. MCR is a band that is sometimes misinturpeted i know i did when i first say them and it was because of their image.but show them the music video of I Don't love you(you can find it on youtube.com) come on how can someone hate a band that has plays a beautiful song like that (they look normal in that video to.) and tell them the meaning to some of their songs like. cancer it talks about very vividly how it a cancer patient most feel yeah its a sad song. or the song famous last words where he talks about hope and not being afraid of doing whatever you want. that you can overcome anything. another good song would be the ghost of you(three cheers for sweer revenge album)its about the fear of losing someone you love. another song would be. the song disenchanted is about how hard and difficult and misleading the music industry can be. they are a really good band with very meaningful and deep lyrics. they arent bad they aren't emo. they are alternative rock and it seem like they are going to leave a mark in the music history. just like the beatles is the greatest band "ever " or atleast in their time. MCR is the greatest band in our time the 21 century. they have a very good message. they aren't bad. dont argue with them cus that usually makes it worse. just explain to them why you like them and what mcr is all about. mcr really cares about their fans and they have helped alot of people with their music. so hope that helps. i know thats how i made my family except them.

I think you will just have to wait until you are older. This is a war you won't win. You can bring up the fact that "Penny Lane" and other various Beatles songs were about drugs and the video Yellow Submarine was made while his precious Beatles were on Acid. But, I doubt that it will work. You can bring up the fact that the Beatles era, the 60's and 70's was all about Sex and Drug's. You can try the free speech act but it won't work either. I'm afraid these 60's and 70's hardcore Woodstock "free love" HIPPIES have all become weaklings. They are pawns in the game of life. They have turned into thier parents and they are all a bunch of hiprocrites. I'm sorry.

The Beatles were known for controversial lyrics in a few songs.
-Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds- considered by some to be a song about LSD (John Lennon said it wasn't but you don't have to mention that.)
-Drive My Car- Considered to be a song about sex.
-Norweigan Wood- Song about John Lennon cheating on his wife. No joke
-Day Tripper- song about sex and drugs.
- Most of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was written while experimenting with different drugs.
-"The Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance was influence from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, by the Beatles.
All good points. You should try out the Beatles they really have some great music. Hope the points help you out some.

If you're to win any argument at all, you'll have to get your facts straight. It is not enough merely to say "But I like them". Argue your point and argue it well: what is it about MCR you like? What is it about MCR your parents vehemently dislike? Please don't tell me they buy into the whole Emo Death Cult nonsense? If your parents object to the lyrics, then let them have a look at the lyric sheet. Explain that the tales of vampires, murders, cancer sufferers and lovers dying in a hail of bullets are all metaphoric and should by no means be taken literally.
As for arguments specifically designed to impress a Beatles fan: tell him that I am 31 years old, training to be a teacher and my two favourite bands in the entire world are the Beatles and MCR. :)
Good luck!

First of all, your Dad's responsibility as a parent is to act in your best interests. And when those best interests conflict with your wants - he is being a good parent in chosing your best interests over what you want. Arguments will get you nowhere. Acting with maturity, you and your father need to talk through the why of his decision in more detail and you need to be receptive to his reasons. Even if you disagree. By virtue of the fact that you lack insight as to why he has made the decision he has leads me to believe that you can be easily influenced by the messages in those songs.
Like it or not - his decision is his decision and as long as you are not a legal adult - it's his right and privilege as your parent to limit your exposure.
That being said, if this is not a negotiable issue with him, then perhaps you can demonstrate a level of maturity by negotiating with him on another matter that may be important to you.
As far as the blame train you have climbed onto blaming your parents for your attraction to "dark" things because of the meaning of your name is pure unadulterated bunk. You and you alone control your choices and the path you are chosing for yourself is not going to have a good ending if you continue on that road.
I just betcha when you can demonstrate the ability to make sound choices consistently, he will in turn be more receptive to some of the things you want.
Count your blessings that you have a parent that cares so much about you. A lot of kids don't.
Meanwhile, stop acting like a spoiled brat.

Don't lose your cool boy, better talk to your father heart to heart why you love MCR. Act maturely. I believe he will reconsider if he sees he was wrong to judge those people by their appearance alone and that they were not a bad influence to you instead they provided insights of the worst thing in life.

When i first started listening (back in '05) my mom told me i wasn't allowed to anymore. This was because of the way they looked. Now, i guess my parents don't really know what they sound like, look like, or even remember who they are. But, two of my friends dads love MCR.

Has your dad heard their song about cancer or aids? I don't remember the title of the song but I thought it was wonderful. It's not about death; it's about the sadness of caring for someone in their final days, an experience that many people have had or will have.

my father always thinks he is right when we two have different points. i once asked him such question: how many times were you wrong when you had different points with grandpa?
with the increase of age, one lose the capacity to accept new thing. I bet that in those days your grandpa felt sorry for your father because he were obsessed with Beatles.
tell your father, everyone has one's own time.
