BAD IDEA.
it could get infected.
you may pierce it crooked, which will leave a scar, which will make it PAINFUL for a professional to do it.
doing it yourself is just bad. please don't do it.

I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. I got mine done when I was 18 by a professional. First of all they use a special needle, it's much fatter than a sewing needle or any needle you'd have around the house. If you were to try doing it yourself with a regular needle, once you pierce it and then try to stick the ring in, the ring is going to be fatter than the hole and it might tear the skin a little and hurt a lot. Second, you have to be very careful about getting an infection. When I got mine done I had to buy this special salt cleaner and clean it daily to prevent infection. Any piercing won't look very nice if it's all infected around it.

Lastly, have you ever pierced yourself before? It hurts! A lot!! Because you're doing it yourself you won't do it as quickly as a professional and it will take longer and hurt longer. Also it'll be hard to make sure you're doing it straight, etc.

If you want it done and want it to look nice, ask your mom and go to a professional. If she won't let you, I'd wait.

You can really hurt yourself when you don't know what you're doing. Either convince your parents, or wait until you're old enough to get it done with out parental permission.

Consider those horror stories before you even think about piercing yourself. There was also a story in the news a few months back about a girl who nearly died from piercing her own navel. She managed to puncture her intestine, leading to sepsis. Her mother was recently convicted of child abuse and will be spending 2 1/2 years in prison.

And for the record: You can not sterilize tools, needles or jewlery without an autoclave. Rubbing alcohol, boiling water or burning it DOES NOT STERILIZE anything.

I think that you should not betray your mom by going behind her back and doing it yourself. If you still want to do it when you become of age, then go to a professional. Although you might go to a professional there is still the likelihood of getting an infection. Bear in mind that it will take about a year to heal, you can't let anything hook in it, be careful how you sit so that your pants would not bear down on it and the skin might get a bit discoloured because of the agitation.

I did mine by myself at 16. And guess what, it looks like ****!!! I have a half-inch scar from an infection after the piercing (and yes, I used a proper 14-guage needle, sterilized it, kept the piercing clean, AND IT STILL GOT INFECTED!) It hurts like hell too during the piercing. Wait until you're 18 for a legal piercing.

I never want another piercing again. My only ones are in my ears (and it's just one hole in each ear).

P.S. I looked at the above poster's piercing, and it's uneven, and her she didn't select the right jewelry for her first piercing. She also pierced through too much fat layers.

Do not do it yourself. Trust me you can do alot of damage if you do not do it right or you can get an infection. Your best bet is to go and get it done by a professional. Do you have like a cousin or an aunt that is over 18 that can take you and act as your guardian? That would be your best bet. Good Luck!

Respectfully, that would be an awful idea because there's such a high risk of infection and you really have to know exactly what you're doing. Wait until you're 18, and then you can make your own decisions.

I agree with Kitti562 a hundred percent! Don't do it yourself... a piercing doesn't look pretty with infection all around it... I went to a professional too they only charged me $15 dollars and I didn't even feel it, no pain, no infection. WAIT DON'T DO IT YOURSELF!!!!!

don't. i had mine done professionally and it still got infected and took over a year to heal. and now that i'm older and don't want it anymore, i've had it out for 2 years and you can still see the holes and scar tissue. deffinately don't do it yourself. at lest wait til you're 18 and can make the responsible decision for yourself to have it done professionally, if you still want it then.

I really want my belly buton pierced too! but doing it on ur own is wayy more dangerous than getting it done professionally. I really advise that u DO NOT do it urself. My parents wud kill me too so all we can do is wait till we r older.
