I suspect the past updates are hogging much needed disk space, but I'm not sure if each update is all inclusive or not, and if removing them may be harmful.

No, that would un-install the updates.

Go to Drive C: and open the Windows folder.

You can safely delete the FOLDERS that start with "$Nt" to free up hard disk space..

Some of them are that "Malware" stuff they put on to scan for a specific malware I guess. I not sure if they a one time run or run on boot-up or what. I had so many of those it was pathetic, so I deleted them and turned off my Auto-Update. I using Windows 2000 Pro and figure if I have a problem I just re-install as those updates are junk to myself. I have Virus software and Firewall. Microsoft always wanting to control our computers it seems to me. I installed Ubuntu Linux on my new computer build.
