What color carpet on stairs? central hall,green DR, choc LR, white hallway, wood floors-thanks?

Sounds like my house! Except my mish-mash is tile, wood, brick, vinyl and carpet.

I'd select what ever color is at the bottom of the stairs......is that green? (I hope not white as that's a bugger on stairs) Any chance the stairs are wood and you can go with a runner? Wood is a good unifying material. Like my place, you need a unifying material or color.
