The spanish brought the Santa Nina to them which was the baby Jesus. Philipinos get so extreme with religion that they say a prayer on ferry boats before leaving... they announce over a loud speaker at 5pm every afternoon and stop doing business while they bow their heads to pray. Voodoo or other black magic is against the law in the philippines

Because the Philippines was a Spanish colony for over 300 years. Spain brought Catholicism to the Philippines and converted most of the population.
