Well mae c, you have asked a very philosophical question. Actually the color of orange came with the first light so it came long before the fruit. I should qualify that answer by saying that the wave lengths of light that form the color we now know as orange came first. The color that we know as orange was named after the orange fruit which makes the whole thing a little confusing. The color was there even before the orange tree evolved but it was not named until the orange fruit came along. They named the fruit orange then someone noticed that that the orange (fruit) was the same color they had been seeing in the rainbow so they called the color orange.

I think its orange the fruit because we have so many fruits that are in different colors but none of them are named after their color.I know its not a satisfactory explanation but this could be a reason Edit : Yeah, I've got what you're trying to imply, lionwolf! According to me, the word was used for the fruit and then used to name for the color because of the fruit
