I LOVE the term "Mucky pup", your British I am assuming. I too am a "Mucky Pup".Although not British for four generations.
Try a tablespoon of bleach in a big bowl of warm water and soak. OR try Oxy Clean. That gets out rust and a range of odd stains. IF you have heat dried it, you may be stuck with the stain.
If it simply will not come out try a design that can be put over it so you can at least get casual use out of it.
Once I got some bleach drops on some favorite Khakis. So I took fabric pens and made a floral design to hide them. I wore them another three or four years.
Until!!! I was in the attic cleaning out the storage space. I touched my tush against the sharp tips of the nails that come through the wood and put FOUR holes in the pants. So they finally bit the dust.
Good Luck.

I'll tell u of a way that goes against the way we were taught. But it does work.I do it all the time on blood stains.Take the piece that is stained and run hot water through the material.I use my tub because of the force of the water.Make sure it runs through the material where the stain is. Good luck. Or u could just dap some bleach on it and let it set for a minute and rinse it out.

SALT,with lot´s of SALT, like you do with blood stains, soak in cold water, remove your top and add salt , leave like this for 1/2 hr or until you see the stain lifting then rinse in cold water, don´t add bleach or wash in hot water

rub washing-up-liquid into the stain, then pour a small amount of neat household bleach on the stain and again rub in, leave for approx 15 Min's, and hey presto the stain should have disappeared. you then need to wash your tee shirt or the bleach will burn a hole in the fabric.

If all else fails, try bleach, if the top is plain white, this will be fine, as it stands the top is unwearable anyway, so what have you got to lose!!

if its a completely white top - just use bleach - but be careful with it - thats the only way to get it back to completely white

Easy. do what Indians do...Rub lemon juice on it. It will turn deep red but comes out in the wash. Its the tumeric (haldi) that has done that.
