That's why I read, life is short and I will never be able to travel and experience all the things I want to in life, by picking up a book I can travel around the world and be someone that I never thought of being. A book is the best thing on the planet!

No. If you don't read you don't learn. Life is about learning and reading is one way of doing that. Why would life be too short to be spent on reading? Experience is important, but it is not everything. Reading makes you a more well rounded individual, and I read mostly classics. The classics teach us about the past, and perhaps to an extent a little about ourselves.

Socrates thought that an unexamined life is not worth living. From Saussure's research on language, we understand that we don't understand anything in itself. We understand things by the ways in which they differ from other things. Life is too short for any of us to experience all the possible ways in which we could live, love, create, etc. Reading reveals a wider universe of alternatives than we could ever find on our own. For a deeper exploration of the tension between living and reading, read Herman Hesse. But understand that this is not a zero-sum game. The experiences of living and reading enhance each other.

I believe in striking a balance when doing the things we like...
However if you only have passion in life through pure reading and pursuing knowledge via books... what is there to stop you?
Life is too short spending time worrying over hypothetical assumptions...
The cliche phrase "Just do the things you like...go for it" speaks for all... be it devoting your time reading or mere scaling Mount Everest...

i believe that life is about reading and living. you don't live just because you are well read. the world is full of interesting things that appear one way when you read about them, and are more exciting when you actually go and do them. so read about life and then try some of the things you read about. your life will be much better spent that way.

Hey, in my opinion life is to short not to be spent on reading. I just wish more people around me read so that I could exchange books with them. I think it is almost criminal that more people don't read anymore, they watch TV.

Life is too short NOT to read. Reading allows us to gain understanding of experiences and situations without having to live through them. For example, we can read biographies and gain the perspectives of many lifetimes.

Absolutely not, you would miss out on so many things without the knowledge that reading brings; to every walk of life.
