There is no doubt that Messi is a great talent and he will keep improving as time goes on. But, as one person said, you cannot be better than the creator. Maradona is the greatest player of all time, yes even better than Pele. Maradona was an on field genius (an off field idiot). I love watching Messi and Barcelona play, but I think Messi would have to win consecutive world cups to even get a taste of being a world wide legend.

I think Messi is a great player, but there are players even better than him in world football currently. He lacks physical strength of Maradona, which is very essential to be better than Maradona.... Also, Maradona was more of a play maker than a goal scorer and I am not sure Messi can ever be that... He will be one of the greatest forwards...

No. Maradona is the best player of all time, Messi is maybe the best player in the world today (at least definitely in the top 3 along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldinho) but he cannot be compared to Maradona.

He has to win a world cup on his own and become a myth all around the world like Maradona has become to be in his league.

only time will tell... but i will honestly say that Messi did disappoint me a few times especially with people saying that he's the next Maradona.. Think if people keep on saying that, and if he keep on playing the same way that he does, i personally think that he won't be better than Maradona... But again, only time will tell... we'll see..

in time. he already has a u20 world cup two la liga titles and a champions league title. and if anyone saw his golazo against Getafe then u know messi is on the same level as maradona. I think Messi's off field life will be much bettter than maradona's, and that will make him play longer and better than diego.
