The previous owner to my home planted Zoysia grass. My lawn is an ugly, ugly, brown most of the year. I live in Long Island New York if that helps. If I have to dig the whole front yard up I will. Thanks in advance for your advice.

I am amazed how often people recommend round up: it's one evil product, and it will poison your ground for years. Rainwater will carry it into the drinking water supply as well!

Why not just peel off the top layer of your garden - it may be laborious, but it will go a long way towards taking care of our planet.

I agree with not using a chemical to kill it off. Just try what the others said peel off the top layer and you can use sod to replant if you want grass fast otherwise gently loosen the ground and replant with the type of grass you want and cover it with straw. You might have to replant in areas that did not get good coverage but it is the safest way for the environment.

Try round up to kill it all off. Wait about a month and replant with a fescue. Blugrass is nice but I don't know if it can handle the soil up there.
