i knew the tokay gecko bites and bark, my gecko aint gone for me yet i stroke him and he licks me he wont let me hold him yet tho, but i aint heard him bark or make a growl yet, they also say gecko! gecko! but i aint heard nothing since i got him 5 days ago,, he is only 6months could this be why or do they bark from young? i put my hand ifront of him and tryed to frighten him but he just sat there watching me, no sound? why dont my tokay talk???

too young. "TOKAY TOKAY!" is a mating call. As far as him not biting you, that's a good thing, you don't want him starting. Give him time to settle in, leave him alone other than feeding, watering, cleaning for a few days, best not to torment him since he's so small.

Back in the day, when Tokays were all wild caught, they were nasty, nasty animals. It was an understood fact that they were to look at, not handle. Now that they've been breeding in captivity for a while, I don't want to say they're domesticated, because they're not, but they do seem more tolerant of people, and less bitey.

The Tokay "bark" is a threat noise.... You may never hear it.

The bark is usually accompanied by the wide open mouth warning that says " I am going to bite you if you don't leave me alone".

I used to keep & breed Tokays.
They would bark when I misted them with water.
