I'm going to presume you are asking about places, not tourist attractions so here goes....

The Beach. My favorite is New Smyrna south of the 27th Ave Ramp - Houses and condos, few hotels, but plenty of rentals. No driving on that section of the beach.

Blue Springs State Park near Deland - Beautiful natural clear swimming hole spring.

The Keys. Getting too crowded and expensive, but still quite beautiful. Not many beaches, but a fisherman's and sunset lover's paradise.

St. Augustine - a bit of old Spanish colonial Florida

Really off the beaten path - Cedar Key. This tiny island is on the west coast well north of Tampa/St. Pete. Time pretty much stopped there 60 or 70 years ago. It's a place you go to slow down and do nothing.

To live, I'd say Davenport right now. To visit while you're there if you don't want to do the theme park thing, there's cypress gardens...if it's still open, can't remember, the beaches (either coast is good and they have a different feel), the Everglades. There's a few good museums that kind of get put in the shade but might be worth a visit.

Depends what time of year you're going & what you're looking for?
St.Petersburg out on the Gulf coast is really nice & has the Dali museum there. Not far away is Clearwater which has gorgeous beaches & is quiet.
Over on the Atlantic coast there is New Smyrna Beach which is nice.
Nearer to Orlando is Kissimmee and it's Old Town which are really enjoyable.
Hommassassa Springs up North has the manatee. And St.Augustine is quaint.

The gulf beaches are the prettiest. Sanibel, Captiva, and Anna Maria Islands are very nice, along with Longboat and Siesta Keys.

As far as I am concerned, Orlando , with its various theme parks, Bush Gardens Tampa Bat and Cape Canaveral are the only sites I have any interest in seeing ---- then again, i would be a tourist. I do live near Philadelphia.

Captiva or Sanibel Island on the Southwest coast. Go to Sanibel-Captiva.org and check it out.

If you want to go to Florida and not have all the tourist I would recommend the Fort Meyers area, it is laid back and peaceful still with things to do.
