A PCI card will never be a great gaming card.
A PCI Express X16 bus is 60+ times faster than a PCI bus.

* Note - Since PCI Express is a serial based technology, data can be sent over the bus in two directions at once. Normal PCI is Parallel, and as such all data goes in one direction around the loop. In the table the first number is the bandwidth in one direction and the second number is the combined bandwidth in both directions. Also please note that in PCI Express bandwidth is not shared the same way as in PCI, so there is less congestion on the bus.

I believe your PC has an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor on a motherboard w/ ATI Xpress 200 chipset. It has one x16 PCIe slot for a graphics card.
Best and fastest could be EVGA 8800GTX KO ACS3 (Factory overclocked) but it could be bottlenecked by your processor and your power supply may not be able to handle it.
Your current power supply might be able to handle the 7300GT or even the 7600GT. More powerful cards would also require a more powerful power supply.

as long as you do no longer % to play Crysis you will get completely good PCI/AGP taking part in cards from maximum shops which will play maximum video games. i'm making use of my onboard Intel card and have no problems for universal gaming (Hitman, CSI etc). :)

You'll be hard pushed to get a decent PCI GPU nowadays! After PCI there was AGP and we're now on PCI-E!
