Okay, so I always thought when it was the "year" of "whatever sign" it was a good thing, but so far from what I've read, this is not a good year for the boar/pig. Can anyone add to this?

All of the signs in the Chinese Zodiac have thier good and bad qualities. Perhaps some attach meanings to the pig that they consider unflattering, and allow them to think the pig is an inauspicious sign. Certainly some of the signs are more popular, but they also have bad qualities as well as good ones.
According to legend, Buddha called all the animals to him, and only 12 showed up. He gave each one a year in turn as a reward for acknowledging him, and coming when he called them. So all 12 have been blessed by the Buddha....

people born in the year of the pig are suppose to be financially successfull. thats why theres a crazy baby boom in china and hong kong at the moment. i dont much else about it...just that cos it was in the news
