i have a 12v cdrom drive that i want to convert into a sound system for my room. is there any chance that it will explode if i plug it into a 220v outlet?

take a look at the transformer (the thing you plug in the outlet). This converts the 220Volts to the 12v that your CD rom needs. It should state the voltage and frequency that it can be used for. Most today are good for 50-60 hz and 110-220 V. If your's does not clearly state these ranges, you're looking at a dangerous situation if you plug it in.

You wouldn't be able to plug it into a 220V recepticle. A 220 plug has a different style plug and it is much larger. If you "Hard" wire it, have the fire dept. on call, so they can save your house.

youbetcha!!! do not plug it to the 220v outlet. It will destroy the drive and maybe start a fire

Your question is a clear indication you dont have the knowledge to do this job.Thats not a put down.
For even a novice "electronic" builder, that question is a no brainer .Best to find a friend to help out.

Do you have the correct transformer for it?
Go to a store that sells external CD drives and see if they can hook you up with the right transformer. good luck

hook it up to your cars 12 volt battery
