Pretty broad question... just like the current administration's views of Presidential power.
Traditionally, the President is the head of the executive branch of our government, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, and our primary diplomat. This gives him the abillity to check the legislature with his veto power, appoint countless executive branch officials, influence the judiciary by appointing Supreme Court and other federal court justices, direct troops in times of war (though the War Powers Act, which says what the President and Congress can and can't do in this area has never been enforced), and negotiate treaties with foreign governments (that then must be ratified by the Senate).

In the particular case of the man currently occupying the Oval Office, it is certainly true that he fails to demonstrate one power that all presidents should have. That is mental power! In an IQ contest between himself and a dead flea, the flea would win hands down.
