Hello,
(ANS) Making friends or creating friendships online is no different from making friends off line in the real world.
You have to mix with people alot, you have to find something in common with others (something that you both like or have an involvment with). Share a common interest in something gives you a ground from which to relate. i.e. your on the same wavelength as them.
You have to be open to the possibility of being someone else's friend? (why? because friendship is a two way process) in my opinion.
Friendship is a VERY very under rated kind of relationship, friendship is the best way to feel that we are not alone in the world. Friendships can & do enrich our lives beyond measure.
A real & good friend is worth their weight in gold, good friends are very precious.

Just be yourself!!
Go onto the free game sites (Yahoo is great) and start playing. You'll be making friends in no time!

You can go on chat rooms or here at yahoo answers, almost all the big sites now have groups or communities, e-bay, amazon etc...... If all else fails I'll be your friend ((*_*))

I was same as you 5yrs ago .i logged in to diff pen friend sites and since then made lot's of great friends www.penpalworld.com
is one i can recomend ,www.tagged.com is another one .
