Why are the media so focused on "Hollywood" and shallow things? We have so many "real" issues to focus on, but I never see that in the news. The real stories of the war, why African children are still starving, our poor dying Earth. I mean we have some real problems to face. I could really care less about Britney's newest outburst, whos wearing what or some other shallow topic.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy occasional gossip and just plain stupid stuff. I just think it's sad when you have to "fish" out the real news. I started reading the newspaper! I've just noticed we are getting more and more obsessed with TRASH.

because America has lost her values and morals. Just look what we have running our country. People do not care for the other anymore, seems Americans have become so greedy and calloused with no feeling for the hurt, hungry, or those in despair. It's a very sad thing for the best country in the world to fall as it has. Now we have lost our respect as a nation as well. It saddens me to think how far we've fallen in such a short amount of time. God Bless us all

Probably because for the last 7 years Bush has dragged us thru the all the crap that he possibly can. He created war and nobody wants that. He has ruined anything that he can get his hands on and he has drug us down. Why should anybody care anymore? Our benefits are being given to illegals that come in and just sit back and reap the rewards that we as americans spent a life time to build. And why watch any kind of media? Aren't enough people depressed now? Aren't enough people bi polar or on some kind of anti-depressants? It's pathetic. This country needs a major change for the good. Hopefully when someone new is in the White House, maybe the first thing on the agenda should be to send a trash truck around to clean up the mess from the last 8 years.
I was kind of shocked that for the first time in over a year or so, the headlines on the yahoo page didn't include something about war, Iraq, or any of that crap. I'm sick of it all.

Every generation when they reach a certain age looks at the world and says, "It was better when I was younger." The thing is it was better because you were young. You have just come to the realization of how the world is, but the truth is the world hasn't changed; you have. Now take a serious look at history beyond 10 years and you will start to see that the world has gotten better. We don't have slavery, we don't have people working 16 hours days to provide just food and shelter and we have more equality for women. Be happy, if you want to change the world a little more than do it....don't complain how shallow it is because other people aren't changing it.

The news is entertainment and designed to sell sponsor items (yes, even CNN). It's nothing new and has been part of our culture since day 1 (whenever we actually stopped being Brits culturally and became Americans). The real news is around but not in the normal media.

Just a technical glitch out there.
With the blind still hanging upside down living in caves in planet of apes.
But never fear.

Actually, you have a valid point.
What I have to say is this: The world is going downhill, and America is part of the world. Man is imperfect, and as such, can never solve all our problems. The world needs outside help from someone who does not share our imperfection, and who genuinely cares about us.

you cant go to the tv for real news. and its not just america, but if that is where you are, then yeah, sucks doesnt it? they need the ratings etc. "the news is just another show" perrry farrel. there are things going on in america that are news worthy as well as the more worldly issues you mentioned. you want news go get it! it aint on the tv.

I don't wish to share a point of veiw on your question but I just wanted to say it's great to read honest Americans 'tellin it true'- if Americans like you lot were more 'in power' it'd be a better place.

I don't know if you know this, but tabloid news is a big industry world wide.
We're not going "downhill" until we have live executions in amphitheaters.
