What company made NYC's taxi cabs in the '50s?

They mostly likely were made by Checker. Most people thought of them as a taxi operating company but they actually did manufacture the cars themselves. That is why they always had that 1950's styling - they never changed the body style.

Wasn't there a lot of Checker cabs back then.
