um.... you need to be way more specific with this question. There are many factors you need to consider...first of all, which processor are you going to choose? Personally, I would buy the 6300 way before i bought the D. Then you need to tell us whether you will have an AGP or PCIe video card. And also how much RAM you would like to be able to support. But I'm pretty sure you will need an LGA775 board no matter what. I might suggest the Nvidia 650i or 680i. I also suggest that if you get a motherboard try to buy it from newegg.com and also get a motherboard by BFG Tech. They have a lifetime warranty and good support.

for pentium D2.8 ghz its the intel choice is D101 and D102 where 101 has ddr ram support and 102 has ddr2 support these are inbuilt with some standard graphic accleration so this is the best
for core 2 duo E6300 my idea is intel D946 Which is the best for core 2 duo support

I cant tell you which is best but I can tell you to avoid MSI. I have one now it's giving me a ton of trouble. I've also been warned that the new ASUS boards are having lots of problems too.

Epox and MSI motherboards are the best. Very stable and excellent for gaming.
There are different models available, with different features.

Asus will be good as it can be overclocked easily.
D101 and D102 will also be good for Pentium D. I am using D101.
