I would definitely give the stranger a GREAT BIG SMILE. It is not his fault that I am in a bad mood.

I'm hardly in a bad mood, sometimes I'm in a blue mood (dang depression)
A smile from a stranger cheers me up so I smile back.

I'm a bartender. Strangers smile at me every day. I'm used to it. It's just reaction now, I smile back. No matter what kind of mood I'm in.

Smile back ofcourse- I'm usually the one smiling first and some people do look stunned at first then smile. We just aren't that friendly anymore when a smile startles people, ya know.

has this seriously never happened to you guys? sometimes im just in my own little world, and i realise like 10 steps away that someone smiled at me and i ignored them. i smile at other people and the same has happened back, some say hello or smile...
