By the way, what I meant when saying the meds commment is kinda like the "do not operate heavy machinery" that they put on medication bottles. That if you are on meds, that you can't own a handgun, in case someone forgets and might end up hurting someone by accident. There was a case here in california were a women had plowed into some high school track atheletes. That day she didn't take them and they charged her with vehicular manslaughter...if I remember correctly.

I think the TIX system is used across the country by gun dealers.
Freaks, felons and other undesirables who have paper on them are in the system, though the system has flaws and omissions.

There is a federal law on the books that says something to the affect that anyone who has been determined by a court of law or psychological exam to pose" imminent danger to themselves or others", is prohibited to on or process any firearm. The problem is the law was writing so poorly that it didn't lay out the system for getting the info from a local court into the NCIS, ATF, and FBI databases. I believe this law was past in the immediate aftermath of a previous mass shooting, but I'm not sure about that. However, every ATF form I've ever filled out has a question about mental illness. IF you check yes in that box, you do not get the firearm. I guess the ATF thinks noone would lie on a federal form, lol.

One of the question on the 4473 form that is required in every state to purchace a firearm asks if you have ever been deemed mentally incompetent, If you answer yes, the seller by law MUST stop the sale right there. Even if you claim that you misread and answered the question wring, the sales clerk cannot continue. Answering falsely on the form is a felony, and if you answer no, the background check that is run will disqualify you if you gave false information. Also, if it is a handgun you are purchasing, there is a MINIMUM 3 day waiting period.

Laws governing the purchase of firearms vary from state to state. Instituting some form of psych exam would be very difficult to administer & monitor. The results of such an exam or screening would not necessarily indicate any type of potential for future acts of violence anyway.
As for those taking meds.....what if they stopped taking those meds? Would that make them more fit for gun purchase?
There are many folks walking around w undiagnosed mental/emotional problems, so why choose to pass laws affecting only those seeking treatment for themselves?

ive on no account heard of it. how could they determin who's mentally solid and volatile?? and what with reference to the persons who have already got a toddler at domicile? if the mummy fails, could they take the different toddler away too?? i dont particularly think of which will bypass. i think of that in the event that they % to do something like that, then they should do the screening in step with threat 2-3 weeks positioned up partum. if the mentioned mom fails, then supply unfastened counsling or some style of provider to assist and suport the mummy devoid of taking the youngster away. see you later as there is not any info of abuse or ignore. i do believe some father and mom are undeserving, yet there are great ones obtainable. quite lots each mom gets some style of "toddler blues" after the delivery simply by all the hormones. the wellness midsection could in all probability ought to call the law enforcement officers on me because of the fact if i gave delivery and that they tried to tell me i oculd take my toddler domicile because of the fact of a few stupid psychological assessment, all hell could destroy unfastened!

I think some might, but it may be easy to just lie on forms like Cho did. It require different agencies, departments to coordinate, relay information and that doesn't always happen.
