If you have no escape and the gunman is just popping people as they lay there, and you know you are going to die anyway, isn't it better to just get up and charge the dude?

Is there a way to charge a gunman so that he/she shoots you in a certain, not so lethal location?

What about someone with two guns?

I'm fully aware that it is almost impossible to know unless one has been in that situation, but that is why there are things like "boot camp" and "law inforcement / self defense training."

Surely there are "rules" based on statistics when it comes to a situation of this nature. This is what I am wondering about.

Muun: You are the disrespectful idiot who is "ASSuming" to know my motive behind the question. I am not judging those at the school. I am thinking ahead and wondering for the future. Unless one ponders such a situation, you can't even begin to be prepared for it. ----That was my motivation behind the question. You know... learn from the tragedy! ----I really am in no mood for punks like you right now.

It is pre-emptive thinking like this that will at least give you a chance albeit an 'outside' one, of saving your own life and maybe that of others.
If you believe 'today' to 'kill or be killed', it could very well save you tommorrow.
Don't worry, it is a valid enough question, 'muunbiem' is obviously sure he'd lie there like a worm......

I think that in this situation, everybody should charge the gunman and tackle him. That way he can't shoot everybody, which otherwise he could.
I don't see any way to guarantee you won't be killed, but erratic movements may help throw his aim off. Waiting for him just inside the door, if you know he's coming, might give you a chance to jump him before he aims. Crouching low might help, as he'll expect you to be standing.
Best of all, if you know he's coming, block the door with furniture like the students in one classroom did. He tried to open the door, then he pushed hard and the door opened a few inches, but the students pushed the table back to shut the door. He shot through the door, but the students had moved to the sides. Then he went on to the next room. Everybody in the barricaded room survived.
I do see some value to thinking about this. It could help others (if not us) in the future.

I think you charge only if you're face to face. These school shooters come into buildings to kill. They're not looking for money or to rob someone. They're in there to kill. It really depend on situations, but if some kid with gun walks into room you're in he(or she) is going to shoot randomly.

Smaller caliber weapons require pretty accurate hits to kill people. So if you're not face to face with the shooter you might be better off just hide behind something.

I would take cover by facing away and ducking your head under, crouch down low in little ball. So hopefully any hits will avoid head and other important areas.

If it is chaotic some kids often play dead during these shootings.

You disrespect the victims by continuing this repulsive debate started by a few neo-nut mouthpieces. I sincerely hope that you are never confronted with such a "choice".

Shame on you...

Wanna be REALLY "proactive", tweener? Make it so folks with KNOWN mental problems can't walk into a gun store like it's the neighborhood grocery and buy a pistol and a sh!itload of hollow-point bullets.

Samo, you don't know WHAT the hell you'd do, let alone what I'd do, given the same situation. You mopes can say what you like about my "literary style", but to second guess victims is a sh!tty thing to do...

No Id lie low & try to Escape or IF I were a Cop Id ID suspect locale & find place to 'pickoff' with rifle or pistol.

No Id Lie Low OR get riddled with bullets.

How bout U???

If U could find some weapon in the class to use, YES maybe charge from Behind.
Have distraction then charge.
Otherwise GET OUT somehow.

Don't know - hopefully charge the gunman.
Depending on your environment, you may be able to move from cover to cover or concealment. Then there's hoping that you'll be able to find a suitable weapon.
If you get shot, depending on your mindset, you may actually end up killing yourself quicker. Mental attitude plays a big part on your survival, unless you get shot in the head (that's a different story).
If you have a chance, look up "On Combat" - Dave Grossman and Loren W. Christensen

Listen to me..This is the BEST thing you can do in that situation...Pull out YOUR gun and shoot the gunman .If your not aloud to carry a gun in the place that you got gun down and you survive ,you should sew the body that denied you the right to defend your self, and made you a victim of crime,,lol,,lol.

That question is much easier to answer for those of us not actually facing a deranged gunman. I suppose noone eally expects that death is so imminent that they would surrender their own life to try & save the lives of other people.

The natural human response for most is to flee, or try & affect some type of protection for one's self/

The moment you see someone DRAW a gun, charge him. Don't wait for a shot to be fired, guns aren't allowed on campuses.

Don't worry about losing your life, either. Giving your life to save others around you is the greatest accomplishment you could ever dream of.

Better to shoot back. But if you are Liberal who thinks all guns should be banned, feel free to charge the guy.
