I don't have a changing table. I change my girl on the bed or floor. When she was still young enough to pee when the cold air hit, we would lay down a waterproof mat under her.
My in-laws seemed to think they didn't need anything and made me feel like I was high-maintenance when I had my daughter (crazy!). But here are some things that I would not do without...
*swing (must have!!!!! all babies sleep in these)
*bouncy chair (babies will sleep in these and they are easy to take with you to visit friends/family)
*high chair (mine reclined and my girl would fall asleep in it after eating....ahhh...peace and quiet)
*travel system (stroller that an infant car seat/carrier will snap into so you don't have to take the baby out, and the car base so you don't have to mess with the car's seat belts every time. I will miss the stroller when my girl is too big. I don't have to carry anything, drink, purse, cellphone, shopping bags, diaper bag, etc all goes in the storage basket!)
*swaddler (cheap at walmart)
*sleep sack (when outgrows swaddler, also cheap at walmart)

Yeah, I bought a changing table. In fact, I went all out and bought one attached to a dresser. I used it once or twice, and hated it. But, at least I got drawer space out of the purchase. It really is not a necessary purchase. I personally do not know anyone who has liked or used theirs often. I think it is a waste of money. As far as what you do need: Bottles, a pump if you are breastfeeding, formula if you are not. Infant Gas Drops. A baby health kit( thermometer, brush, nose clearer, etc,) bibs, diaper ointment, diapers, wipes,a diaper bag, a baby bath tub ( I prefer the type that inflates, they are much easier to bathe the baby in and last longer due to their larger size,) baby wash, baby lotion, laundry detergent suitable for washing baby items and burp cloths. For burp clothes, we uses cloth diapers instead of those small burp cloths they sell. They last longer between washings and can be used as a bib during feedings, plus they can be used as dust cloths once the baby no longer needs them. You also need a crib, a crib matress, matress pad and fitted sheets. Oh, and baby blankets and receiving blankets. We bought a basinette and all three of my children hated it. But, the most important purchase was a vibrating bouncy chair that does not have a preset timer that automatically shuts off the vibration. This was an absolute favorite of all of my children and helped on many nights when they would not sleep. It would automatically calm them like nothing else. You do through a lot of batteries, but is well worth it! Don't forget the teething toys. You never know how early that can start. My son had two teeth before he was 3 months old.The two purchases I made that I thought was a waste of money: One was a bottle sterilizer. I used it once and found it was much easier and quicker to do it with a boiling pot of water on the stove. The other was the diaper genie. I think I was emptying that thing every time I turned around. Some people love it, but I think it was too small. But, don't worry if you forget something. If you are giving birth in a hospital, besides clothing, you will be sent home with a diaper bag and basic necessities to get you through the first few days to a week, so you'll have time to have someone pick up any forgotten items. I hope this helps! Good Luck and Congratulations!

I loved my change table. I would either sit on the couch at her level or use the change table. It was my height and I didn't hurt my back bending or picking her up or putting her down. With this baby I have a small but beautiful place. Due to the small room though, I got a taller dresser and will use that as a change table... Nope, no changing table here! But mostly because we didn't have the space for one. We did have a pack n play that had a changing station right on top . . . and THAT served as our changing table until our daughter got too big for it. So after that we just used the bed or floor - no biggie! Our space was so small that all the supplies were "right there" anyhow (on the dresser) - so supply storage was not a prob for us. An absolute neccesity for us was a bottle warmer (I had the small First Years one) as microwaves are a no-no and warming the bottle in a pan/dish took too long. Oh and the microwave sterilizer (we didn't have a dishwasher which apparently can be used as a sterilizer)!!

I have one and my son is now 2 1/2, but I use it for storing the extra sheets for his bed and extra blankets. The one I have has cupboard with doors. There are sets you can buy. Teh crib turns into a double bed eventually, the changing table has a lip to keep baby from rolling off (Still use a belted changing pad) and when turned over when done with the changing table becomes a dresser with the lips of the changing table becoming the legs.

I don't use my changing table and never have. Couch, bed, blanket on the carpet, wherever I need to change her, I do. Somethings you will need are blankets for swaddling! I didn't swaddle my first and she didn't sleep through the night until she was 10 months old. I did my second and she started sleeping 10 hours straight at 3 months. I know that temperment has something to do with it, but I think that swaddling can definitely make a difference, as well. When baby seems to be getting to long for the small blankets most stores carry, I like the blanket by Swaddle Designs. You can get it online or at Nordstrom's. A little pricey, but totally worth it! Good luck to you! You'll love it!

I'm 30 weeks pregnant, and i didn't buy a changing table for my baby because you can change a baby anywhere, so.. me personally you can buy a dresser or something else to hold his diapers, and such!!!
Changing tables can be pretty expensive too!!
I'm not getting a crib either i just got a playpin because we plan on buying him a car for a bed when he grows out of the playpin... its alot cheaper!!!
I think a baby swing is very useful for when your baby is fussy but you don't have the time to hold him or rock the baby!!

I had a changing table, and I used it only for storing diapers, blankets and other things.... I used a portable changing pad and changed the babies wherever was convenient.
I find a bouncer seat very helpful for babies, and pretty much could live without anything else. Of course you need the car seat and stroller (even the stroller is optional depending on how active you are.)
Congrats and good luck!

Hi, I have a 2 month old daughter, and I bought a complete set which included, the crib, Dresser ,& Changing table. I love my changing table. It has the pad on top to cushion baby ,and two shelves for storing diapers, wipes, lotion ect. You dont have to have one. Its not a necesity. Im gonna use mine as a bookshelf when baby grows out of it.
Nessecity?
We'll besides somewhere to sleep and bottles.
-Clothes different sizes because they dont stay in them for long. When there a newborn or at least untill umbilical cord falls off I would reccomend one piece sleepers.
-Onsies- you need a few. They are great for holding diapers in place
- Diapers- My daughter was 6 lbs 13 oz & only stayed in newborn for 2 weeks, You'll mostly need size 1.
-Wipes- they come in handy for everything
-Lotion, shampoo, diaper rash cream- for bath time
-Bottle cleaning Brush- To clean bottles
-Socks
-Blanket- heavy or thin depending on the wheather
-Recieving Blankets- I use them for everything ,wrapping baby ,burping baby
-Carseat- to bring baby from hospital
-diaper Bag- to carry babys things Dont get a tiny one trust me you'll carry more as baby gets older.
-Gas Drops & Tylenol(Infants)- for gas relif and pain
Those are pretty much the basics
Swing- is great trust me. It puts baby to sleep, and It frees up your hands so you can get something done.
Bouncy chair- my daughter absoulutly loves hers.

No, didn't think it was necessary. Just thought it would end up as storage and will take up room space. I used the floor, the bed and the couch to change baby's diaper.
