I've heard quite a few argue against conservation and the use of alternative energy, but why do you want to use oil considering the downsides of it's continued use?

If there was an alternative just as cheap that we didn't have to go to war to secure, wouldn't you rather do that?

Do you have an Economically Viable alternative? I've been looking into it since 1969 & haven't found it yet. Granted in niche markets it is great.

I would much rather use alternative energy to fuel not only my car but my house and other appliances. The thing about oil is that there is not an unlimited quanitity of it. It will eventually run out and I think the greatest fear most people have is that deadline for when it does run out because then where will we be? Oil usage SHOULD be continued but there should also be a greater push for alternative energy and a higher usage of said alternative around the world.

Abolutely. I am not a tree hugging hippie by any stretch of the imagination. However, using oil is a security risk to this nation, both because there is a finite supply and we currently get it from places which aren't too friendly. We need to get off of foreign oil to protect this country. Oil will always have its place, (Just about everything from plastics to laundry detergent is made from it) but we should not get it from abroad.

Sure if there was a cheap, immediate alternative to oil, we'd jump on it. But until there is one, we have no choice. Our economy runs on oil.

Wait... Why should I accept an alternative? I've been doing it this way for years, hasn't hurt me yet. Those Arabs aren't going to keep me from my way of life. If I want to use oil, I'll use oil, you aren't going to stand in my way.

(Note: *sarcasm.* It's unbelievable that this could be believable, but I geuss it could.)

We don't want to.

But the financial support behind alternatives isn't enough.

Blame the oil companies.

I don't think anyone would be against such an alternative, especially considering that it would end our involvement in the Middle East virtually overnight.

But I don't think it's as easy as that.
