I think If I was close enough to the window I'd jump the hell out.

I thought of this before I saw your question. It would depend on the exact circumstances. If I heard gunshots nearby I would quickly ascertain where they were coming from and how I could escape, I would have time to mobilize and respond. However, if there were no warnings and someone just came into the room I was in and started shooting then my fate would lie with destiny. I could be killed instantly or not perhaps depending on where I was sitting and the actions of the shooter. In any case, if I had time to respond I would get the hell out of there any way I could. Windows, doors, rooms off the beaten path, anywhere. If the doors were chained shut like that guy did and I ran to get out a door, that escape route would be closed and I'd have to find some other way to get as far as possible from the shooter. It would be very scary.

I'd most likely freeze, 'cause I get scared way too easily. Although, I am currently peri-menopausal so there is a good chance Cho would have lost a couple of eyeballs
I imagine everything slows way down with the fear and adrenaline rush in spite of the chaos and fast paced horror. This usually allows someone to think more clearly, hopefully causing them the "ACT" rather than just REact without an end result in mind.
I suspect, however, that unless a person has been tested under this sort of stress and had to make split second decisions in spite of themselves, learning how to recognize the paralyzing fear and ignore it, then I imagine that many students just froze.
Yep! I would freeze and say a prayer of forgiveness so I was ready when I met my maker.

Jumping out the window and breaking a leg or two is definately preferable to being shot. Looking for a good bush to land in could minimise damage. If there wasnt a good window I would hide somewhere or pile some desks and go into the ceiling. If I had my own gun I would cap that guy full of lead.

Stay still, and as inconspicuous as possible. If you are going to be conspicous then try to move in a way that divides attention (some folks go one way, some another). Try to place barriers between you and the attacker, especially those which could stop a bullet or prevent you from being seen. Good aim requires good sight.
If you have no choice, and are not likely to survive the ordeal, then change tactics and be as obvious as possible, and attempt to draw as much fire as you can, especially away from the others. This will save the others attempting to get out. Each bullet that is sent your way is not going into your friends.

Wear my backpack as a bullet proof vest, and throw other
backpacks at him. Throw chairs, slide the desks around,
anything to knock him down. If he left the room block the
door and jump out the window.

If there's no warning sign such as gun shot and the shooter just come in and starts shooting, there will be hard to explain what to do. I think our survival instinct will help us to protect ourselves as much as we can by hiding behind the desk or just lay down on the floor. While I was doing that, I would pray to God to help me survive the killing. In God, there is nothing is impossible. If you really believe in God and you pray, HE will listen and miracle will happen.

This is what's so upsetting to me about VA Tech. He didn't even have an automatic weapon. Two students could have tackled him and taken him out. Instead they just lied there. Schools should be teaching self-defense strategies to students for this kind of situation. In fact, it should be taught at the elementary level for students who have to walk home or are being bullied.

Well the guns were automatics. If you could reach the guns you could hold the receiver back and stop the firing. But he had 2 guns. All should charge the gun man. You know some will die. To stand there and let someone shoot you is not smart. It is hard to know what to do.

If i was unarmed and survived ,i would vote the gun controllers out of office and put a gun in every students hand..and on every airplane..Law abidings citizens would win every time and sick-o's and terrorist would loose. The police will never be there when you need them and thy will arrest the wrong man when thy get there.if the sick-o didn't continue his rampage the wrong man would still be in jail and facing death row.VT is proof of that .And proves that law abiding people need to carry a gun...It would save lives....Sick-o's and terrorist wouldn't,t have a 100% chance of success.VT and Columbine and 911 is proof of that..Just think of all the lives would be saved..Vote gun control out..
