i own a repair shop and these cars have a safety shut down on them in the computer that will prevent you from running it hot,id try replacing the thermostat in it and flushing it out real good and make sure the bottom of the radiator isn't stopped up on it,other wise do all the obvious just like it was a regular car,but it is designed so that you cant run it hot, there's a temperature sensor on it that will shut it down so i doubt that it has been hurt any at all,but you may have to take it to a dealer to get it repaired ,because most people don't like working on these cars, they are complicated and very expensive to keep up,and parts are twice what they are for a normal car, good luck hope this helps.

The problem is called vapor lock. Basically the fuel heats up and turns to vapor before reaching the intake system. But the overheating is the problem. Once you get rid of that problem you won't have to worry about vapor lock.
First check your water/antifreeze fluid level. If the fluid level is low fill it up to the marks. Start it, and look for leaks in the hoses. If the hoses leak replace them. If you find no leaks it is one of four other problems. I start from the cheapest to the most expensive. None of these sit on the outside of the engine. Pick up a Haynes or Chilton manual on the J30.
1) Bad thermostat. Remains closed... replace it and the thermostat housing's gasket.
2) Clogged radiator. Restricted flow. The usual problem. Replace the radiator. Using the over the counter junk rarely works.
3) Bad water pump. Doesn't pump enough water through the engine. Replace the water pump.
4) Busted head gasket . Allows exhaust gases into cooling system. (strip the heads off the engine and replace the head gaskets. Not an easy repair.
If you do the work #1 costs about $15. A shop will charge about $130. #2 is about $150 DIY or $400 shop. #3 is about $170 DIY 500/Shop. #4 is $450 DIY and $1300/Shop.
If you are not mechanically inclined it is best to have a dealer or mechanic you know troubleshoot the cooling system.
You mentioned the car was sitting for a long while in another question, so check the fluid level first. The other stuff requires mechanical knowledge.
BTW how did you get it to start ?

Don't trust JUST the gage.
When it cools down, remove the radiator cap, fill the radiator up with the engine running (cold). Put the cap back on, and fill the coolant reservoir half way.
Drive it around the block, and look for leaks.
And try to start it again???

Thermostat, maximum possibly. in the adventure that your hose is warm different than on the radiator then that could desire to be the situation to start. the cooling systems are tremendously straightforward on maximum vehicles. i alter my fluid and thermostat as quickly as a 300 and sixty 5 days. in case you have a sturdy mechanic do your artwork they could desire to replace the thermostat while they flush the coolant. maximum speedy lube places do not. if the thermostat isn't taking off the water only isn't waiting to get cool.

you should check it with a mechanic, but i have one advice, you shouldn't drive to fast or accellerate to much, that will make the engine hot, and is the car outdated? i mean its 2007! not 1993!

*cringe* that sounds odd, i don't know for sure but here are a few things to troubleshoot:
1.)Check battery(potentially bad when it gets hot, i know they make a wrap for your battery to keep it cool)
2.)Check altenator, belts, cables(if belts are getting old they tend to stretch and may not be fully turning the altenator or starter
good luck mate!
