It wouldn't be from the pop eye, but could be because of medications you might have used o treat the problem. Often it's not so much the tank that gets a bad smell, but instead the filter. If you have a filter on his tank, clean it and replace the carbon, that should help a lot.

Do have the water checked, ammonia can smell really bad and is of course very bad for the fish.

Hope you figure it out

To add on to a previous answer, if you treated for pop-eye, you probably used an antibiotic, and this destroyed your bacteria in the tank/bowl. This will prevent the ammonia in the water from being converted to nitrite and nitrate as quickly as it may have been in the past, so that might be the cause of the smell. Since the bacteria are disrupted, you'll need to do more frequent water changes while your tank cycles again.

one million. Bettas do no longer "stay" in cups. they are stored in them quickly at puppy shops till they discover their everlasting properties. puppy shops take earnings of their hardy nature, yet make no mistake- all puppy shops do away with lifeless fish from the revenues floor on an conventional basis! verify your mom is conscious that a cup of water with a fish in it potential that fish is swimming in it extremely is very own waste. That waste is ammonia and motives gill injury and ammonia burns and poisoning. 2. except you shop craigslist or hit upon a low-fee tank in a thrift shop, you likely are not going to discover a tank with the lid for purely 10 dollars. Petsmart sells a 10 gallon (merely the tank) for $13.ninety 9. 3. Petsmart regularly sells the effortless flowers- moneywort, cabomba, java fern, anubias, frill, and distinctive potted flowers. in the event that they have them, decide for crypts. they are hardy little flowers. 4. a 10 gallon tank has a 20"x10" foot print. it extremely isn't any longer that vast of an area once you think approximately that the fish would be spending its lifetime in it. Plus, a bigger quantity potential extra reliable water situations which potential it extremely is extra useful for the fish and extra handy for you.
