Depends on what you're looking for and how long you'll be in the US. Chicago, IL is a neat city to visit--reminds me of New York City but with a friendlier vibe to it. Lots of art & music to see and the night life is awesome also. During the summer it's a beach town too, which is neat. California's neat too--it's trendy and there are plenty of neat things to see. Plus the culture is really different the farther south you travel in California compared to the north--so that's kind of cool too. Those are my picks.

It depends on what you are looking to do and what season you plan on visiting. For a historical tour I would choose an East Coast state such as Virginia, New York or Massachsetts and these States are so close to each other you cold probably visit all of them.
If you just want to visit one State I am partial to California. There are beaches, mountains, desert, fine dining, wineries, art, great music, amusement parks...basically a bit of anything your looking for with great weather almost year round.
Have fun.
