Survival ... you mean barley scrape by???

Survival implies that a catastrophe (like Bird Flu) is forcing us to live without our current means (communications, transportation, medicine, and social structure). In such case, I have faith that mankind will survive whether living in Asia or the America's.

The world is GLOBAL ... we are all dependent on each other to maintain and exceed our current life styles. Certainly, we're not utilizing our resources effectively for each citizen of humanity ... however, we are moving towards creating a better life style for all of mankind.

Vaccinations (small pox, and other killer disease) are being delivered to remote area's in Asia, Africa, and South America. Knowledge gained in Switzerland is shared with all nations who can translate and absorb the knowledge.

I would think that the goal to set for Asia (or any other region) is to build a society that exceeds current standards of living (financially, socially, morally, and spiritually) while providing for those who have less than they do for a greater planet and shared resources.

i dont see why not

we have the land, various natural resources, the technology, labor, physical capital, infrastructure, business leaders, universities, and consumer base, all at the same time

certainly, almost no one will argue that the world's economy is interconnected... but if countries like china and india develop themselves a little bit more and maintain steady growth, asia can last a long time by itself (esp. once they are in good shape to reduce exports and stop financing other countries' debts and developments)
