For summer reading, I can highly suggest, "Raintree County," by Ross Lockridge Jr.
This is a big, sprawling, time-bending, novel, which builds time & place, as you read it. It brings to life an entire, war-time, community..it's loves, struggles, and passions. You watch, and read, on and on. It is a book you can lose yourself in, while being thoughtful at the same time.
It is, in my opinion, and the opinion of dozens of literary critics & writers, an "American Classic."
Remember, "Portnoy's Complaint??" Alexander Portnoy (a very American character, created by Philip Roth) had a girlfriend who was reading "War & Peace" during the Summertime. This book would be a good one too (Portnoy's Complaint, that is, not War & Peace), btw.
However, I'd go with "Raintree County."
It's about the same page amount as "War & Peace," but you'll sink into it..and, once you read the first part, you will be hard-pressed, nor to keep reading..You'll see: One passage, merges into another. It is extraordinary writing. The young author, (first time published) Commited Suicide, after the publication of "Raintree County"..this Biography is also fasinating. Lockridge's Son wrote a Bio of his father; also worth looking into.
Good Luck, with your studies..and have a super Summer.
xx,adam.

Salinger is a great author. For something even more of a page turner, I would recommend Ken Follet's "Pillars of the Earth." You think you are reading great fiction, but the story weaves an incredible tale that ends up describing a period of history that everyone has heard about, just not from a first person point of view. The story takes place in 16th Century England (or around that time anyway) and it starts with a hanging. Who the person is that is being hanged and why he is being hanged involves a great tale told in a book that you will not be able to put down. The love story is intense, the villains are brutal and despicable, and the culture of those times is amazing. The book entertains, educates, and, well . . . give it a try. You won't be sorry.

For reading novels i think the books by Jules Verne are very great. The novels are science fiction with enthusiasm to make you stick to it.
Some books like:
1. Twenty thousand leagues under the sea
2. Journey to the center of the earth
etcs
or if you want some suspense stories the story of sherlock holmes would be great.
similary for love factors the book by Parijat "The blue memosa" ("shirish ko phool " in Nepali)is good.
hope you have a great summer with your books.
