That is a good question and one I have wondered about. When I was young and crazy, I remember climbing trees and swinging like Tarzan on limbs. I fell a few times, but recovered before landing on the ground. Banged up strained and bruised I'd do it all over again.
As I got older, I got a job working demolition on an old 4 story building and discovered I had a problem with height. Almost sheer panic in fact when it came time to get to the ground level and had to walk a 4-inch beam across and 3 stories up. Scared to death, I managed to crawl across the beam and to solid footing and out of the building.
I believe it is a learned fear. At least that is how it seemed to me.

No I love heights...........I used to climb under the interstate bridge near my home and sit out over the Missouri River. It was about 200 ft in the air..........Oh yeah, and my older brother chickened out on me when we were supposed to go skydiving

Yes. In KC we have a glass elevator in one of the major hotels and it terrifies me. I've ridden on it twice and both times I couldn't look out over the city. Ooooooooh...

Not at all. Besides, heights are only high if you look down.
