I like to experiment with different types of fires OUTSIDE in my backyard. I have a water hose and I don't see why it is considered stupid. I mean, as humans we all get interested when we watch things break and burn. Isn't it considered normal to play with fire as long as there is a water source nearby?

Personally, I don't see the threat. People have about a greater chance of dying from a ski accident than actually dying from fire as long as WATER is within a arms distance.

sometimes water makes a fire worse, in fact, if you get some pure magnesium, and drop some pure water on that, the water will CAUSE a fire

depending on what you are putting on fire, different chemicals may be present, and you might need different materials to handle the problem.

obviously, this has to do with WHERE the fire is, as well.

for example, if it's a grease fire, the water will cause the grease to sputter, and that will throw fire in all sorts of crazy directions, and the water CANNOT put out a grease fire.

the reason that "playing with fire" is dangerous is because you cannot know what it is going to do, under many circumstances

Fire is awesome, it looks cool, but I've had experiences. I was at my cousins house when he lit some sparklers, ok so he wasn't as "prepared" as you. He lit it inside the house and a shirt caught fire. The shirt then lit some papers and I put out the fire instead of my cousin. He thought it was cool too, but he was nine. The hose near by might not be the only thing you should have, like in some of the answers above, have an extinguisher near by. You obviously aren't going to stop, but be carefull. OK

The main reason is people are afraid that you will harm someone. As long as you take some precaution and take care in what you're doing you should be alright. I wouldn't rely on water, in the event of a grease fire or an oil based fire you should use baking soda to put it out. Learn about what you're doing before you actually do it.

Depends on what your playing w/ fire with. Sometimes water won't do it.....I'm in Fla. it is REALLY dry right now, a small brush fire can quickly become a threat to near by homes....plus, indoors, it's not always the fire that kills, but the smoke inhalation........Don't play with fire, just because accidents can happen....a fire can get out of control so quick that before you can dial 911, too much damage can already happen.....be smart. Maybe one day you'll be a firefighter.....but for now, let it be.

Fire isn't always as predictable as you think it is especially if there's a sudden wind. As it has already been said, having a hose nearby doesn't help anything if you don't get to it quick before it gets out of control.

First of all, nobody said it was "stupid" Secondly, if you play with fire, and you know what your doing, (then its not called "playing") then its not "stupid" Some people have CAREERS involving fire, and people really respect them. Remember not to use fire unless you know what your doing. Water can cause flames to jump, I suggest you get an estinguisher or a fire blanket.

Hope This Helped.

I have played with fire and I have been burned but as long as you don't make your house go up in flames and you dont get seriously burned its not that stupid.

Just because you have water close by doesn't make playing with fire safe. My step-dad is a firefighter and he just had a fire where a guy was killed in the shower. I think he had some water close by but that didn't save his life.

Dangerous would seem to be a better word than stupid. I hope you have a good unsurance policy if your fire ever gets away from you.
