The City hasn't done anything about it. When it rains the water reaches my doorstep I just moved into this home and don't want to give it up just yet. Is there anything I can do if my home floods because the city has not taken care of this problem?

This concerns the city engineer and not the local water department. this "water drain" is actually a "Catch Basin" and it is obviously clogged with debris. The city has a duty to maintain their stormwater drainage system. The best thing you can do is call and leave a message with the city engineering department (usually you can find department phone numbers on the city website) or the city Inspector. Keep leaving messages if they don't get back to you.

I have had several problems. What I do is email the mayor, explain the problem, explain what might be done, ( the cheapest solution that will do the job) and I also explain how this problem will reflect negatively upon the city if it does not get taken care of.
Be polite.

You'd be surprised how fast it gets done.
You see, the mayor has to run for re-election, the bureaucrats do not.

Be sure to send a "thank you" when it gets done.

Why not save everybody some worry and clear it out yourself? Or call animal control if you think raccoons or the like have a nest in there. Most of the blockage should be leaves, just sweep them up.

If the flooding gets into your house, it is a matter for you to take up with your insurance company. Let them tackle the city to recover their losses.

There is usually a water department board meeting once a month in every city/district/township, etc. I would attend that meeting and make sure someone took care of the problem.

I agree with Terrie. But if nothing is still done, you can call the city employees and ask for the number to public complaints on them and they HAVE to give it to you.

You must live in Huntington....check out the latest policies in your city....most cities are refusing to fix anything but the pipes that go down the center of our streets....not the ones leading to it......

The city would be legally responsible to perform repairs to your house and property.

Have you requested that they fix it? In writing?

If they won't respond, just ask your councilman, selectmen, or town maager. They work for you and will respond to complaints.
