If guns were nationally banned, how do you think rounding up all the ones already out there would go.
Are you ok with the police assuming your hiding weapons and coming into your home and searching!

Whats to stop people from stabbing people to death, or running them down with a car, or strapping a bomb to their body, or throwing gasoline on them and a match.

If people have the desire to kill you think they can be stopped?

Who really gets punished by banning firearms!

Umm - The right to keep and bare arms is guaranteed to each and every citizen in the USA who is here legally, by our Constitution. It is so for a very important reason!

However, this is not answering your question. So, to do so ... folk who wish to commit a crime, will always have something to their advantage. Be it guns, knives or piano wire!

Banning weapons is not the answer. Putting criminals in prison w/o the chance of parole, could help. Arming every citizen in the USA with a weapon, while not totally sound, makes even more sense, IMHO.

Crime succeeds when a criminal has the upper-hand. If everyone is equally armed, a criminal has little or no chance of committing a crime.

So, Yes and No. If there were no guns, we might be more equal and have possibly, less crime. Then again, if everyone was armed with a weapon (and the knowledge of using it properly), there would be little or no crime.

Hope this helps,

It would stop some criminals, but clearly not all.

Your presumed argument that criminals will always get guns works only if you assume all crimes are planned and all criminals rational. But think about how many crimes of passion there are - a man in a rage grabs his gun and shoots his wife, for example. If a gun isn't handy, the guy will have a chance to calm down, and there is every chance the crime will never happen.

In any case, no one is arguing that all guns should be banned. People are just suggesting that we not let people buy assault weapons, and that concealable weapons like handguns be registered like we do with cars. If you want to defend your home, a rifle works fine, right?

EDIT

You're right, there are a lot of problems with alcohol. So I suppose that's yet another reason to make sure there aren't a lot of guns lying around: angry drunks. They'll be sober in the morning, but I sure hope they don't have a gun before then.

Of course it would not stop them. Japan has some of the most stringent gun control policies in the world. They still have gun violence. Why is that? The answer is because criminals will find ways to obtain whatever weapon they choose to utilize. Guns are the most effective and will be coveted by the scum of the Earth in order to do evil. Banning guns would make it impossible for law abiding people to obtain guns in order to protect themselves and their families from armed criminals.

No, and I honestly think that everyone knows that criminals would be the ONLY ones with guns - were they to be banned. Look at drugs - they are "banned" but do you really have a hard time trying to find some?

Nope. How many times to you hear about felons getting arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm? Marijuana is banned, Cocaine is banned, a lot of other stuff is banned yet if you really want it, you can get it.

There is no amount of gun control which will prevent criminals from obtaining firearms.

Of course not...even if they were banned there are toooo many in the U.S. and what is the government going to do? Go door to door and search everyone's homes, cars, etc.? Put them on a rocket and send them into space?
Guns are here to stay, period.

Perhaps some criminals. Certainly not all of them, there are plenty of criminals who don't have enough respect for the law or the consequences of breaking it to get rid of their guns.

No but since they would be more difficult to get the price would be to high for someone to get easily...(in downtown I can get one off the street for 25 bucks..) People kill not guns but why make it easy, I may have a chance against a bat or knife but against a gun who has a chance to survive....

Nope, black market baby. It will always be there. The war on drugs didn't do a thing either. Drugs are all over the place. Where there is a market for something, someone will provide the product!
