I have 4 children and I haven't had anyone tell me to give an infant prune juice for constipation. I have always used Karo-Syrup. 2 to 3 teaspoons in 4 ounces of formula twice a day for 2-3 days and your infant should be back to normal. You may also want to let your pediatrician know that your baby is constipated, this could be caused by the formula and a simple formula change could be all you need. If you absolutely insist on using prune juice I would recommend DILUTING like 1/2 ounce of juice to 3 1/2 ounces of water. Call your pediatrician.

I didn't want to give my breastfed baby anything other than breast milk for the first 6mo so when he was constipated I used more natural methods and it worked great. First put baby in a warm bath with water covering his/her abdomen. Massage his belly. Start at the belly button and then massage outwards in circles in a clockwise direction. Some oil or cream on your fingers can also help. Only continue if your baby enjoys the massage and is comfortable and relaxed.
After the bath (and throughout the day) Place your baby so he or she is lying on their back. Hold their legs and turn them gently in a quick cycling motion. This will make the stomach muscles move and, in turn, put gentle pressure on the intestines to make them move.
If your baby is on formula milk, you should follow the instructions on the package carefully. Making the mixture too thick by putting in more than the recommended amount of powder can lead to constipation and other medical problems.
If the constipation continues...check with your doctor
Better to be safe than sorry

First of all, how do you know he's constipated? It's totally normal for babies to grunt and strain and go red in the face and pull their legs to their chests and even cry when they poop.
Constipation is diagnosed through a change in the consistency of poop, or when a baby doesn't poop at all. The tricky bit there is that it's also totally normal for a breastfed baby to go up to seven days without a bowel movement, and even formula fed babies can do this.
If you really think there's a problem, instead of introducing fruit juice, which isn't recommended until they're at least 4 if not 6 months old, try taking a rectal temperature. It sounds whacko, but the rectal stimulation helps a lot of babies void their bowels. Lubricate, insert about 1/2", then remove, and see what happens.
Or call your pediatrician or the nurseline for further advice.
Seriously: constipation is pretty rare in babies, even babies getting formula with extra iron.

Not full strength. Probably best to try two parts water, one part juice to start, and don't go about one to one ratio. Also, for a one month old you shouldn't need more than a total of 2 ounces. So I'd suggest 1.25 oz water with .75 oz prune juice.

You should ask your doctor/pharmacist how much prune juice to mix in your baby's formula. I had to put prune juice in my daughter's formula for constipation, my doctor ok'd it, but I do remember he told me a specific amount to put in (can't remember it now, she's 3!) It worked great by teh way, so much better/natural for them!! Good luck!
