on here...Do you think that Y/ans is actually encouraging and endorsing this behaviour...like maybe these people are 'plants' of some kind?

I doubt Yahoo trolls itself. I do think that the wrong people are being discouraged/deleted/belittled. I think the improvement Yahoo attempted to make is a mistake. I don't know what the answer is but I do recognize a problem when I see one.

Honestly I dont think they are "plants" I think they are bored and biggoted people that feel power when spreading their venom. I do think though that Y/A could do a bit more to help stamp it out. I figure that people spell things differently and put spaces between letters which still reads offensive. There must be like a main frame that blocks offensive words, perhaps 4 or 5 variables to that word would help maybe just alittle. Other than that, let'em troll away, if no ones answers then will soon get bored.

I still stand behind booting by the ISP#'s. I think Yahoo is leery of doing that because of multiply shared computers such as libraries, schools etc... On the other hand, let some Mom come home to a frozen acct though and the crap will hit the fan on the domestic front.
I think the "plant" theory isn't sound. The multiple accts are too easy to generate, any child can do four of them in twenty minutes. Y!A is a large area and we're a small but plucky and loud group of highly fashion-sensed folk who want our own human dignity left intact. That's not too much to ask for. Let's just keep up being loud and insistant.

I think that Yahoo! encourages trolls for the sole reason of getting more web hits to their site. Yahoo! is slow to respond in order to get more web traffic and sell more advertisements. If Yahoo! advertisers were made aware of the questions and answers associated with their ads, the advertisers may question Yahoo!'s practices.

You know...I've been wondering this myself. The trolls do tend to create controversy & some mayhem on here. I could care less because they can't hurt me, but I worry about the people who are scared & trying to figure themselves out. They come on here seriously seeking answers & support & then they get hit with this spitefulness. It's an evil & it's a problem.

Could we start a petition on here for better troll control?

No, I don't believe Y!A has trolls on here on purpose. That's granting Y!A far too much intelligence than they show.

I honestly think the best line of action for us to take is to report every inflammatory question and answer we see. Every.

I also think that we should not answer any of the questions filled with hate. It feeds the hate that the troll needs to survive. I think we should starve them.

I figure that they in fact have a gay lesbian and transgendered place on the web for all of us to mingle. The fact that they have included us is enough for me.
and they appear to be on the ball ,when it comes to abuse reports. Since I have gotten a few violation notices for asking about rev. jerry fallwell (the sow) and one for responding to whether or not speedos are in. i said they are with it and hip and cool. I got a violation email and got docked a few points.
Where they fail is the outright banning of the IP address. I think it would have to be very serious for them to consider banning the IP or criminal actions since most answers are in a purely entertaining state. But I would say that some people on here (even on our side) have very harsh attitudes towards the left leaning gays and what kind of a community attacks members of their own genre. It mystifies me, some of the harsh answers I have gotten. but find on the most part that the answers have some heart to them and some of them are fairly sincere. Certainly getting my attention.

I've reported a dozen different trolls today. I'm getting tired of it. I wish Y!A could assign somebody to patrol each section and just delete the trolls.

I don't know that YA is encouraging it, but they do little or nothing to stop it...they have the power to ban the IP address, but they don't use it. This entire site is getting more than stale...same questions, same bull, same over and over. That is only one reason I don't come here much anymore...boring.

They are not concerned. Their guidelines are in place and they eventually delete inappropriate posts, sometimes many hours later when the posts have gotten most of their views anyway. They don't think the troll posts hurt their bottom line so they are not too on top of them.
