Although this is mostly up to personal opinion, I would chose something that you can back up with factual information. I'd also think about your audience & what might interest them in particular.
Try a hot topic such as abortion or maybe childhood obesity. Whatever you end up choosing, make sure you yourself have a strong opinion on the matter.
Good luck!

A persuasive speech topic is the best to have, because you get to choose your own hot button topic. Abortion, yes/no, why/why not, war on terror, same approach. How about voting age, is 18 year old voting a waist of a vote? Yes/no, supporting arguments. Choose a topic that gets YOUR attention. When delivering a speech of this type, project your voice to reach the back row, this will show confidence, remember, most of all and most importantly, you are giving information that everyone wants and you are the expert at that moment. Know your speech and topic, just use note cards to jog memory and don't ever read a speech. Reading a speech guarantees raw nerves will show.

My suggestion would be to take a big issue - say, climate change - and think of how it applies to something everyday and commonplace: say, leaving on the TV or a light bulb. You can then title and introduce your speech in terms of the commonplace and seemingly trivial, in an entertaining way - but then move on to talking about the serious issue behind your topic. To conclude your speech, you'd then come back to your everyday example, and show how it relates, and why it isn't really such a trivial thing, to persuade people to take action (or that action needs to be taken).
For example: "Ladies and gentlemen, - especially you, ladies! I'm here today to talk to you about why we need to spend more time together in the dark!" You'd go on to talk about how much energy goes into keeping a household lightbulb burning, multiplied across every lightbulb in the house, across every household inn America (or Peru, or wherever you are) and what that means for global warming... then, at the conclusion, come back to your introduction. "So, ladies and gents, switching off those lights we don't need - spending more time in the dark - really is better for all of us."
Hope this helps. :)

How about motivating ppl to join Yahoo Answers explaining about the chance to ask almost anything without anyone knowing who u r and to help other ppl by answering, the fun of earning points and the opportunity to learn new things. You could use some examples of funny, oddball, and serious questions you have seen and as a punch line tell them you picked the topic based on an answer to a question you posted here.

Do a topic that discusses a common issue or do something to motivate people to make a difference like helping an organization. I think that these kind of topics are best for motivation.

I did my persuasive speech on nuclear disarmament because I feel strongly about. But in the end your going to have to pick a topic that you feal strongly about so that you will not get bored during the project.

-Do less videogames
-Pro/Anti Myspace
-Not to use spray products like spray paint and lawn sprays

-why spiders are not dangerous and actually help us (my friend did that once)
-Why dress code / school uniforms should be changed or eliminated
-Ban Guns
-End The War
-Why a presidentian candidate is good
-To compost
-To be a vegetarian
-To stop racism
-Anti Fox News (if you dont like it)
-Why drummers arent stupid, and are actually smart!
I did mine on prison improvement. Because in the US or prisons are horribly managed and far more expensive than most other major contries prisions.
Hope this helps..

Well if you want to do something kind of off beat and funny, you can talk about junk food with healthy properties. Take this as an example you can motivate people to improve their eating habits.
Chocolate, coffee and cola could help in the fight against cancer and heart disease, scientists have said.New research suggests that caffeine and theophylline, both found in coffee, tea, cola drinks and chocolate, may help block cell growth and blood clotting. The compounds appear to target an enzyme which helps trigger signals that control the growth, movement and survival of cells.Scientists recently found that the enzyme, p110 delta, is also responsible for orchestrating the body's response to infection. It is thought to be linked to inflammation and irritable bowel disease.

Well, Earth Day is around the corner--try to convince people to help with the environment. And don't just go with the same old recycling stuff. Research what some companies do to help prevent waste.
For exampkle, check out Burts Bees [they use recycled packaging and use almost 100% natural products] or that new corn-oil fuel stuff. I forget the name of it.
