I just got back from the Gold Coast yesterday, (by car with husband and three kids)
Besides the theme parks we went Go Karting, fishing, had a ride on the Aqua Duck and drove to Australia Zoo. The drive to Australia Zoo took about an hour and a half and we left after the beak hour to avoid the traffic.

If you are all very hungry I can recommend the all you can eat buffet at the Gold Coast Marriott. Besides the normal buffet food like roasts they have a range of Sea Food and good Thia Curries they cook fresh for you and a desert bar to die for.

We also stayed at the Crown Towers Resort. Great place to stay if you have kids who like to swim.

The Gold Coast. In Brisbane is is no beach. Only an artificial one on the banks of the river at South Bank. But the Gold Coast has the best surfing beaches in the world and an open inhibited lifestyle.

If your going to do the 'weird' aspect... here's some suggestions that aren't the norm.

- Ripley's Believe it or not at Surfers
- The Wax museum is also at Surfers
- Draculas Caberet theatre restaurant
- Jack Sim's Ghost Tours in Brisbane
