Yeah Les, we swear he was a human cartoon character, when he plays the bass
Flea's a good choice too.

Jay Bentley(Bad Religon) he's done some insane stuff.
and these might be a little off the wall considering the ones I just listed
James Jamerson(session player on Motown albums in the 60's and 70's) listen to the bass lines on some of the old Motown stuff there's some really good stuff there
Bootsy Collins(P-Funk) some of the most amazing slap pop bass you'll ever hear.

My all time favorite though is Gene Simmons - not the best musician, but growing up listening to Gene is what made me start playing bass.
