so is that retroactive or something? i didn't know it was ok to change the rules of religion in the middle of the game...doesn't that make it more like politics?

The Church has pondered the suggestion of Limbo for a few hundred years and has decided that it is not a good idea. Limbo was never official doctrine.

Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:15-16)

For centuries, people have wondered about children who died before they were baptized. The Bible does not explicitly state that they will go to heaven.

Limbo was suggested as the place where unbaptized babies went when they died. This idea was never official Church doctrine and has been rejected.

The Church now says that it is not sure what happens to unbaptized babies when they die but she entrusts them to the mercy of God.

With love in Christ.

LOL, I heard they were considering doing away with that whole limbo for babies born and dying before they get baptised thing, but I wasn't aware they had taken an official stance on it yet.

Well my dear, this is not the first time that the so-called word of God has been modified to fit the times.

To answer your question, there is a great deal of politics involved in religion. Just the way it is.

In another way, think of the bible as more of a moral guide - like a parent. Not always right, still learning themselves, but ultimately there to help you become a better person.

It's not changing the "rules." The doctrine of limbo is just that...a doctrine, not a rule. Doctrines are often changed throughout time because people's beliefs change, as do the institutions of which people are a part.

Haven't you ever changed your opinion on any of your beliefs?

limbo is the wrong name ,there are many different levels between heaven [the highest ] and hell the lowest
those who are innocents [as the fore mentioned babies are in the highest hell ,or if you prefer the lowest heaven
so much depends on our freewill ,the works we chose to do for others
even in the highest heaven we can yet fall to the lowest hell [see satan whos fall is the proctical egsample]
babies have neither works nor ''sins'' thus they are in the middle
giving them the freewill to serve others or serve them selves ,while it isnt limbo [just hanging arround waiting [doing nothing ] as the word limbo suggests it still lies between untill the choose
so while the teqnical limbo isnt real the reality of the in between zone between is [till the choose to sin or serve others]

What a relief that it's gone! Now all those babies can fly up to heaven.

And I thought there was no hope for common sense in the Vatican! But maybe... just maybe... they can work towards it.
