Everyone else seems to be talking Vietnam. Let's go back a little further. To quote from Moby Dick (yes, THAT Moby Dick):

I take it that this part of the bill must have run something like this:
"GRAND CONTESTED ELECTION FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES.

"WHALING VOYAGE BY ONE ISHMAEL.

"BLOODY BATTLE IN AFGHANISTAN."

To SPC Matt:
Hitler was mocked around the world.
Saddam was mocked around the world.
G. W. Bush is mocked around the world.

Hitler, Saddam, and Bush all push for first strikes in war, secrecy, and fierce control of their underlings to sub in loyalists.

Hitler had the second most powerful military in the world.
Bush has the most powerful military in the world.

Hitler brainwashed the youth.
Many would say that Bush brainwashed enough of the public to get elected ("I'm a uniter, not a divider" "I promise a safer world" "I promise principled leadership at home"(gonzalez ney libby cunningham delay foley abramoff frist ...)).

They all had secret prisons (also, two of them even had Abu Gharaib as a torture prison -- remember when that was one of the reasons we invaded?).

Don't you think they are all threats to the world?

Note: the logic is flawed in saying "here are several things these have in common, therefore here's a label I'll stick on them all". But if the logic isn't flawed, have I made the argument?

Much of the realities that we encounter have alredy been encountered. One could say that war is a repeat of history. Others would postulate that this "war" in iraq is for as empty a cause as vietnam. There is limited reason for comparing the two. Vietnam was of course embroiled in a rebellion, and a civil war. Additionally, France was there, and we partially got involved in the conflict because of the alliance that we shared. We are a lot better at killing people now. Putting people in power? that needs a little work. Really the only goal here is to stabilize the region enough that the Iraqis can take care of their own country, after we have nearly destroyed it. That is not going to work in the short term, and possibly the long term as well. We need the oil in the country to be processed at a regular, unharmed manner so we can operate. It's no secret that oil is the main motivation. History repeats itself time and time again. As long as you have opposing ideas, you will always have war, and we are destined to repeat our mistakes throughout the course of our history.

i replaced into in Vietnam 1968 to 1969 Soc trang and may tho We were no longer on the point of victory and we had 500,000 men in united states. we would were there for 20 extra years and lets were the position we were after we pulled out and what number extra courageous men ought to have died keen about France it truly is why we went there. the in straightforward words element to do is brake Iraq into 3 the position are you going to get the boys to strive against this warfare? now the Pentagon is putting forward 18 months excursions with 10 months domicile. examine, the most suitable are growing out, 6 to eight years journey, they don't favor a fifth or sixth excursion it truly is taring those households aside. I did like what warfare czar stated we ought to continuously have a draft it ought to spread the load

Nope. We prevented it.

Hitler was mocked around the world.
Saddam was mocked around the world.

Hitler secretly made weapons in factories.
Saddam made weapons in secret.

Hitler had the second most powerful military in the world.
Saddam had the second largest Army in the world.

Hitler brain washed the youth.
50% of the Iraq population is under 14, Saddam brain washed them.

Hitler exterminated the Jews with Sarin.
Saddam tried to exterminate the Kurds with Sarin.

Don't think Saddam was a threat to the world? What do you think he could do with a hold on the world's economy and the second largest army in the world?

He made bad decisions the first time. Went to war unprepared. Most people don't make the same mistake twice.

We will be if the Dems bring the troops home. Vietnam ring a bell? We were actually winning that war, but instead the Viet Cong took back Saigon, (Ho Chi Minh City now) sent Vietnamese people to indoctrination camps/prison, etc. They KNEW when we were leaving, so they simply waited us out and reversed any progress we had made. It kills me that people still think time tables for withdrawal are such a grand idea!

The off spring of the 'anti-war at any cost' hippies are.
They seem to take pride in their efforts to demoralize our troops and trash-mouth America.
We are repeating history in the sense that once Congress authorizes military force - they should step aside and let the generals in the field conduct the war.
A war should NEVER be politicized for the ambitions of a bunch of hypocritical, flip-flopping, bottom feeders.

It is a repetition of Viet Nam.
The deployment of the US Military for fabricated reasons.
The growth of the insurgents and the inevitable defeat at huge losses to the USA of Young Men and Money.
