Wow, I read many of the answers here that the Civil War was about slavery.
How wrong you are. The Civil War was about state Sovereignty to make decisions on their own. The main portion that started the problem was taxes and the laws governing the expansion of slavery. Slavery was simply part of the problem not the entire reason behind secession of the south from the union. Nor was it the primarily reason.
The flag as you say, there were many Confederate flags however; one is associated in modern times as representing slavery. Basically the people that are associating this flag with slavery is because the South had slaves and people want to remember history with all its negative values.
More over, many people forget that the north had slaves and if people even really knew history they would know that some blacks had slaves.. Perfect example is the Johnson family in the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
So, maybe many people, before that make unsupported accusations about something they don't really know about, should go find out the truth about slavery in itself. They should also, stop making general proclamations before having all the information.
Oh and by the way, maybe some of you should read something from Phylis Wheatley and do some research into the last person to be released from slavery. You will find out the last person released from chains was in Boston, Mass. in 1870.

People associate the confederate battle flag to slavery, not The Dukes of Hazard.
Many people do not realize that most southern battle units fought under the State flag of their division or battalion. Many of these state flags had the battle flag incorporated into the flag's pattern.

The confederate flag was flown by the confederates and the confederate army during the civil war. The confederates were fighting and dying to defend slavery and inequality.

Because the South refused to give up slavery (upon which their economy was dependent) and threatened to withdraw from the United States. So the Civil war was because the Southern confederacy wished to break up the American union but they did so topreserve slavery.

Because the people who still fly that flag are fat, stupid, lazy, and white. All those things make black people mad, and they like to focus their anger at slavery, rather than their own lack of ambition.
I hope that helps.
