Necessity is not the mother of all invention. Idea is the mother of all invention.
Necessity means you are already using the invented thing without thingking of an idea. because necessity alread solve the problem for you. if you have a problem, then you will start thingking until you have an idea. when it is invented, then it will become a necessity.

My heavens, I never have been flashed, but I did unintentionally flash a few folks once. I was in the hospital some time back and decided to take a stoll to the vending area. Well, I wasn't thinking about what I was wearing and, let's just say that those hospital gowns don't leave a lot to the imagination on the backside. The nurse came up from behind me and put a blanket over my shoulders . . . I was wondering why it was a little drafty back there!

We do our best problem-solving and inventing when we are pushed into it by necessity. For instance, my classes are playing with solar cookers. We try them out, and we make little improvements in the design. However, we have electricity and we don't really need to cook with these solar ovens. So my students may or may not make any progress during a week's worth of sunny days.
However, if we had no electricity, my students would improve their solar cookers drastically over the course of a week. They'd be motivated.

This means when someone was or is looking for a certain piece of equipment and there isn't one then that person invented that very thing. When it is necessary then it gets invented, the mother of inventions. Got it?

It is wrong. The correct saying is: Necessity is the mother of invention.

I take it to mean that when you really need something, it gets invented. Like the above answer - people came to realize that something better than leaves or Sears catalogs were needed in the outhouses so toilet paper was invented.

it's too simplistic. sometimes people just come up with an easier way to do something, or they think of a toy their kid might like. necessity is not always involved.

the best inventions come about bc there is a need for a product that doesn't exist...or a need for alterations for an already existing product...
