Hi! I'm a high school senior in an Organic Chemistry class and I need some help with the following problem:
The carbonyls in the compound 7-oxo-3-octenal must be protected while the double bond is brominated. Using excess ethanol show the hemiketal, ketal, hemiacetal, and acetal of this compound and indicate the stability of each. Show the bromination with the protecting groups in place. Finally, regenerate the brominated compound in the unprotected state.
