It's a short story, I don't know if it's more suspense or what. I have the characters, the background, but I can't fit it all together in a way I like or that's been done.

1) Brainstorm in a notebook - write down any and all ideas you have - no matter how silly they sound.

2) Put each of the ideas on a file card and sit down at a table and start shuffling them around - changing the order of events until you get something that sounds good to you.

3) Do the same brainstorming with characters - character studies - write down every single thing you know about your characters - the more the better.

4)Put those on cards and start shuffling them around - see who rubs up against who - who likes who - who hates who etc. That will help you to add subplots to your story.

5)Work up a complete outline - adding subplots and main plots - You can also do a story curve to see where you story peaks and how it plays out.

That is the way I teach it. It will work for you if you put a lot into it. The secret is really really knowing your characters well so that you will know how they respond in situations..

Good luck. Pax - C.

As a writer of short stories and novels I know exactly what you mean. It can get very confusing and frustrating. Just take a look at your characters -- what and who they are. Take a look around the setting your characters are in and start to break down what's happening in each paragraph.

Take a look at the dialogue. What are your characters saying to one another. Are they angry, scared, confused? Think about some things that have happened to you in your own lifetime. Put your characters in your position. What would "YOU" do in this particular situation? What would "YOU" say to someone in this particular situation?

Sometimes your characters take a turn of their own. I often look at paragraphs I've written and say, "how did I get that in there?" There are times when the 'genre' can change completely in this instance.

Go to the library and take out a few books like:

Cause of death, Deadly Doses, Order in the Court. These are great idea spinners. They also give your work a great deal of realism. Remember that doctors, lawyers, police officers, teachers... etc.. they all read.

Good luck and stick to it.

Lets do it like this:
In the next couple of few hours observe urself. Taking note of all that u do and see and observe.

By the time u get tired look into what u written..

I am sure Common ordinary life and the thoughts which just pass us are good enough for a short story at least.

Good stories only tell the most obvious........

this could be a great coincidence however the guy the character meets must be relating to the comparable guy she killed. A brother in step with threat? Or a cousin??? Or this is only an concept i seen: How approximately she meets a police detective who's investigating the guy's homicide. that must be exciting. And he has no clue the female he meets is by some potential related to the case... Sorry, it particularly is the main suitable i've got have been given. good success!
