I need affirmation, respect, honesty, loyalty and of course lots of intense sex. Aren't these simple needs? Shouldn't I expect these when I put out for my family. What are some others that are good to have.

Love to me is affirmation, respect. That's how someone shows that they love me. It's easy to say. Prove it by doing these things. Passion, yes.
Great point. communication is key. Can't live with some

You want all of the things I have with my better half. I read all of this post. Every good marriage has those things; that's what sees them through the rough spots. Build a bind that non one can tear I say. Addition: Also it is highly important to me that I am clearly understood. Honesty is a hugely important; though there're are secrets people find necessary to keep, that doesn't bother me. People have their reasons and I respect that.

Maybe I'm reading too much into your question... but saying that you have expectations for how someone loves you is a dangerous thing. We all express love in very different ways. Ideally we would all love people the way they needed to be loved... but we love in our way and hope that others appreciate that.
Your needs sound simple. You should certainly ask for what you want. You should also appreciate love as it enters your life... just as it is with no expectations.

I would add good communication. That tends to be a key factor in any relationship.
The sex part tends to fizzle out some as you get older and more relaxed in the relationship...and as the kids start being up more. Its not nearly as improtant as the talking part is.

I generally agree with you, but I have very few peers (40s and 50s) who would say thier sex life is "intense", or even very good. careful not to demand something you probably won't get. my divoce had othing to do with sex as we hardly ever had any - at least with each other. so many many things become so much more important.

Love & communication.
Simple, yes.
Hope that it's a two way street there, and you have all of the above for your wife/partner/husband/lover and they for you.
sometimes to expect is not enough, let them know that you want this back also.
Best of luck in life...
